People can be rude.
My husband is a manager in a retail setting, so he sees this first hand. Almost daily.
People are rude to him and his coworkers. Often about things beyond their control. It's not fair, it doesn't ever help the situation and it just sends these employees home upset at the end of a long workday.
Then there are the people who butt in lines, cut you off on the freeway or spread lies.
Rude.
It's easy to see and it's everywhere. It's unfortunate.
But, let us not forget that people can be kind.
My family has had kindness poured on us. People gave us a washer and a dryer (nice ones) when we couldn't afford them. People have watched our children for us, helped us move, made us meals, watched our kids so I could attend a funeral, called to check on me, helped us at Christmas, given us a box full of necessities and so much more.
Most recently, just the other night, our doorbell rang. We were all in the front room and so I stood up to open the door.
There was no one there.
I looked down and there, in the middle of our porch sat a card and a jar. The card simply said our name, and Merry Christmas. The jar was packed full of change.
Someone donated all of their change to us. I would not be at all surprised if it was a years worth of saved change.
I can't help my get emotional as I write this. What has our small family done to deserve all of this kindness? We will be forever grateful for every big or little thing we have received and I can only promise that we will spend the rest of our lives giving to others the same way people have given to us.
It matters.

Loved this post! It's true people can be SO rude and it's really easy to focus on the negative and be like, "People suck!" But you are so right, people can be so incredibly kind. I'm glad your little family has been experiencing some awesome kindnesses lately. :)
I needed to read this tonight, Alli. Thank you. I miss you at work all the time. Glad things are going well.
I really Love this post! It's good to be reminded of the good. There is good in the world! ; ) Thanks for sharing and for being a good example of being kind!
